Following June’s ‘Never Enough’, Dubai-based Palestinian artist, K.K., has dropped another lush R&B track in ‘Disguise’. Once again teaming up with long-time collaborator, Syrian-British producer Rayan Bailouni, the track is steeped in similar shades of melancholy to previous releases such as 'Nights Like This' (November, 2019) and 'You Tell Me' (April, 2020), though the production takes on a generally more positive, pop-leaning sound.

That assessment doesn’t take away from the track, however, which maintains the hallmarks of K.K. and Bailouni’s work together: it’s a robust, full-bodied piece whose content harks back to the kind of neo-soul nostalgia of male relationship woes - a classic R&B plotline that has taken a backseat to more sexually-charged, celebratory R&B these days.
Content aside, the track actually came to be almost accidentally. “One day, Rayan called me and asked if I could lay down some vocals for him to use at his Apple Talk,” K.K. explains. “Back then I hadn't released any music yet and so it made perfect sense. So, of course I said yes, we did it and he played them during a segment of his talk where he, along with the audience, played around with the vocals and beat. At the time, he labeled me as ‘Artist X’ and some of the people present were itching to find out whose vocals those were. What they didn't know at the time was that ‘Artist X’ was sitting there, with them, the whole time. We liked what we laid down so much we went on to make it a full-on track and voila, Disguise was born.”
