Beirut-based indie-pop-folk band, Sandmoon, have just released their newest music video, ‘Empty’, which musically, lyrically and visually explores post-breakup grief, while being laced with seemingly positive introspection. The lyrics explore the sense of emptiness associated with the end of a relationship, evoking a somewhat bittersweet feeling combining sadness and hope - and it’s all delivered with suitably ambient, echoey vocals.
"’Empty’ is about realising how wrong some of your life choices have been and how liberating it is when you let go of them," lead singer and founder of the band, Sanda Arslanian, said of the track. “The emptiness that ensues is an opportunity to care and dare again.”
Set for official release on April 17th, the video is composed of desolate, slow-paced, black-and-white shots of nature and the streets. Combined with shots of the band performing on a couch on a laptop screen, it unexpectedly and rather prophetically reflects how most artists around the world are performing today, as well as the bareness surrounding us.
“There’s something very fluid and organic about ‘Empty,’ a song about the void left after an emotional break-up,” the video’s director, Hany Tamba, explains. “There’s a sweet sadness to it, but also optimism. I chose not to ‘tell a story,’ but to simply capture the emptiness while remaining faithful to the haunting atmosphere that the song generates.”
The track is the third single from the band’s from upcoming album, Put a Gun/Commotion, set for release on May 29th.
