Yassin Alsalman, the prolific, Montreal-based, Iraqi-Canadian alternative hip hop-artist better known as Narcy, has released his fourth solo album, the 11-track Love and Chaos (Space Time Vol II). It's a follow up to 2018's Space Time, and exudes the same seeds of conscious rap throughout, while still championing Arab talent in its collaborations. This time round, the likes of Sudanese singer, Nadine El Roubi, Algerian-Canadian singer/songwriter, Meryem Saci, UAE-based producer, AY, and Saudi-born hip-hop artist, Omar Offendum, feature.

“It’s about putting out into the universe what you want in your life," Narcy told SceneNoise in a previous interview. "Dreaming your dreams into reality, but also, it’s about taking the time to carve your own space in society and strengthen your life and soul’s work”

These words couldn't reign truer for an album miraculously put together over a five-week period during the pandemic (his home-schooled kids are sampled occasionally), one which continually preaches for the better of mankind as it flows effortlessly between West Coast rap sensibilities, North African samples and soulful, irreverent witticisms throughout. "They say keep your enemies close, I keep my enemies closer/All I need in this life of sin is my coffee and my nuts like a Lebanese grocer," the artist raps on ‘Frenemies’.

“I didn’t want to make a pandemic album,” Narcy recently told Complex Magazine. “It’s about the macro and micro of life. It’s about the now, but it’s more about me and the creatives who are around me who have to shift their existence because of this.”

The album’s bonus track, ‘Thoughts & Prayers’, is a teaser for a new collaborative project with Thanks Joey called The Internet is Deep Fake. Its video was released last year, which has Narcy's face sarcastically superimposed onto some of the world’s most infamous celebrities and pop culture incidents.

Love and Choas (Space Time Vol II) is available to purchase on Bandcamp and available on all music streaming platforms.
