MC Abdul Reflects on Generation Deprived of Childhood on ‘Wait for Me’

Since emerging on the region’s music scene, Palestinian rapper MC Abdul has captured global attention with his razor-sharp lyricism and remarkable rap prowess at the very young age of 12. Painfully honest and inherently political, his music has become a vessel for the often-overlooked experiences of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation.

His latest release, ‘Wait for Me’ - the lead single from his forthcoming LP and his first release of 2026 - sees him joined by Palestinian artist Nai Barghouti for a poignant meditation on a Palestinian youth interrupted, shedding light on the coming-of-age experience in Gaza, and the ways the genocide robs children of the innocence and freedoms that define childhood.

Conceptually haunting, the track sees Abdul imagining himself as a superhero wandering through the rubble of Gaza, armed with the power to freeze time moments before a missile strikes. Through vivid imagery and poignant metaphors, he captures the surreal reality of growing up in Palestine, where a child who simply wants to play hide-and-seek with friends is instead forced to flee from F-16 missiles overhead. Barghouti’s hauntingly soulful vocals provide a striking counterpoint to Abdul’s incisive bars. Floating through the song like a guardian angel, she embodies a comforting presence for a child whose youth has been cut short, offering fleeting moments of tenderness and solace amid the adversity.

At a time when attention spans are short and political art is often flattened into slogans, ‘Wait for Me’ sees MC Abdul continuing his commitment to documenting the realities of life under occupation with brutal honesty, further cementing his status as a voice of a generation that is being silenced.
