Rap of the Week | July 14 - July 20

In this week’s edition of Rap of the Week, we round up the region’s strongest hip-hop releases, from heavyweight names like ElGrandeToto to homegrown favourites such as Shehab.

Moroccan rap powerhouse ElGrandeToto joins forces with Maes for the first time on the melodic rap cut ‘Casanegra’, featured on the Mocro Stars compilation, a project bringing together North African artists from both the region and its diaspora through a series of cross-border collaborations.

Elsewhere, Egyptian rapper Showkey leans into rage rap on his latest single ‘Malcom X’, while Shehab returns with chill-out trap track ‘Gamarek’. MVNDILA and Tageel, meanwhile, pay tribute to the roots of Sudanese hip-hop on their collaborative EP Culture.

Rounding out this week’s playlist are Tawsen, Bayadis and 3robi on the proudly Moroccan anthem ‘Demmi Marroki’, alongside Mosalem’s latest release, ‘Mates2alneesh’.
