8 BARS Episode One: Lege-Cy

#SceneNoise’s new series spotlights 8 young Egyptian rappers breaking through one of the most chaotic, exciting scenes in the region, talking everything from beefs and branding, to entourages and origins. First up is Lege-Cy.

Hailing from the Egyptian city of Tanta, Lege-Cy is a rapper sitting on the cusp of a breakout that many had predicted when he emerged over two years ago. Having started rapping at the age of 15, Lege-Cy first staked his claim with 2019 EP, 181-191, following it up with a second, Agzakhana, in 2020 - releases that were met with widespread acclaim, setting off a journey that is still very much at its beginning.

An unexpected hiatus at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 left fans wondering if his career had ended before it barely got a chance to start - but ultimately, his time away from the limelight only left them wanting more.  

 Lege-Cy obliged, hitting back with Plan B, a third EP that saw him showcase a unique versatility amongst the dominant trap that defines Egypt’s scene.

Now part of the famed El Batron camp - an Egyptian record label rooted in the film industry - the sky's the limit and the legacy begins here. Stay tuned to #SceneNoise over the coming weeks for more episodes of 8Bars.
