Born and raised in Casablanca, and based out of Paris, DJ, producer and imprint founder, Bassam, forms part of Morocco's new wave of electronic music artists fueling global attention towards the country's booming underground scene. Kickstarting his music career as a DJ, Bassam soon after delved into music production, optimised by his strong knowledge of electronic music. In 2015, the Franco-Moroccan artist founded Distrikt -- an exemplary Parisian club night recognised for its affordable tickets and spot-on bookings featuring the likes of Onur Özer, Varhat and Max Vaahs -- and shortly thereafter, his vinyl-only Antam Records imprint.
The latest in his endeavors towards pursuing exciting new minimal sounds comes in the form of an EP titled Mem Rekomenci, with the Parisian vinyl-only label -- Nifo Records. The snappy, four-track album is crisp, synth-laden and straight to the point. Providing the perfect introduction, side A's "Wicked Journey" is pumping, yet gliding-smooth. Revolving around a main acid riff - "Cosmic Loukoum" is a sleek build-up deep-tech cut, that steps up from its antecedent. Inaugurating the B-side with breakbeat and melodic funk is Bassam and Kizoku's "Rue Saint Marc.” Followed by a Gab Jr. rework of the same cut, the album's final track is a bass-heavy topper with an intermittent acid croak.
