Berlin-based Lebanese DJ and producer Nur Jaber is breaking her shackles and expressing her right to creative freedom on her latest techno project, ‘I’m Not For Sale’.

Over the course of her career, Nur has been toeing the periphery of genres instead of abiding by the general conventions of a certain sound. She’d manipulate influences from different electronic genres, primarily techno, and add her own unapologetic little twist, crafting an untamed sonic landscape that’s distinctively hers.

Her latest project ‘I’m Not For Sale’ embodies this approach in its entirety, highlighting her adversity as an artist to explore new sonic territories and produce unexpected sounds in disregard of commercial appeal. She takes a different approach to the production of the track, interweaving signature elements from raw techno, such as rambling brooding basslines and abstract textures, with trance-inspired percussion, creating a paradox of visceral gritty atmosphere that leans on the darker and more stripped-down side of the subgenre.

Nur’s raspy and ghost-like vocals ricochet off the hypnotic melody dominating the track, delving into the recesses of consciousness with subtle shifts, highlighted by a crisp hi-hat groove and 4/4 kick pattern that adds a little bit of trance to the tonality of the track.

The music video for ‘I’m Not For Sale’ is very minimalistic, featuring Nur donned in a bold black suit and addressing a male figure, who seemingly represents the corrupted music industry that’s trying to box her off into only one genre.
