NYC-based Egyptian singer-songwriter and rapper Felukah has steadily carved a space for herself in the music industry, connecting with listeners through her lyrical reflections on identity, culture, and language. With her bilingual wordplay, confident flow, and playful delivery, she’s become a distinctive voice in the MENA music scene, building a loyal following both at home and abroad.
Back in October 2024, Felukah kicked off her first headlining world tour, ‘Qabl El Shams’, where she previewed her upcoming titular project, a pop EP centered on the struggle of women in the nightlife scene. Produced and organized by Mise En Abyme –a production and consulting agency for art, music, and culture, based in Paris and Lebanon, the tour featured shows in various cities across Europe and the Middle East region, such as Berlin, Paris, Bern, Amman, and Dubai.
SceneNoise joined Felukah during her stop in Paris, where she put on an epic show, joined by a roster of Arab artists as supporting acts, such as DJ and producer Lyss and rapper William Nasr, aka savethechildren, from Lebanon, alongside a special appearance from Egyptian-Canadian artist Ash.
Dressed in a leopard print set, with her hands decorated in swirling shapes of Jagua ink, and golden bangles, Felukah hopped across her dressing room backstage at Petit Bain concert hall, doing her breathing exercises and focusing on the energy she wanted to bring to the stage. Minutes before she went on in front of a roaring crowd that came from across the globe, Felukah shared with us how it feels to go on her first headlining tour as an independent artist, why she named the tour ‘Qabl El Shams’ and her pre-performance rituals.
‘Backstage’ is SceneNoise’s series focusing on live performances by regional artists, highlighting the most electrifying moments of a show, while also capturing the excitement and anticipation performers go through whilst getting ready to play to a roaring crowd outside their homeland.
