Album Spotlight: Shahyn - 'Taltesh'
The Egyptian rapper reflects on how his latest four-track EP is his attempt to shed old skin and experiment with new production styles and collaborations.
After a decade as a foundational cornerstone of the Egyptian hip-hop landscape, Shahyn's latest four-track EP, Taltesh, represents a conscious pivot, one where he steps outside his established sonic identity to experiment with broader lyrical themes and new collaborative energies.
Fully produced by his long-time collaborator Coolpix, Taltesh bridges Shahyn’s signature aggressive delivery with lighter, contemporary sub-genres shaping the modern Egyptian rap scene. Moving away from strictly hyper-personal topics, Shahyn shifts toward a more abstract, universal perspective across the project, a transition supported by taking extended hiatus to recalibrate his creative vision.
In our latest Album Spotlight episode, Shahyn admits to getting impatient quickly and refusing to do the same thing twice, describing the project as an explicit attempt to step out of his own skin. For him, opening his doors to new feature artists and varying production styles is part of a broader evolution. Following the release of Taltesh, Shahyn is set to break a long hiatus from the stage with a five-state US tour scheduled for September, marking his return to live performance and setting the tone for his next era.

بعد أكثر من 10 سنين في مشهد الهيب هوب، بيقدم شاهين في الـEP الجديد "تلطيش" تجربة مختلفة عن اللي قدمه قبل كده، وبيخرج فيها من أسلوبه المعتاد لتجربة أفكار وتعاونات جديدة.
الـEP من إنتاج Coolpix بالكامل، وبيجمع بين طريقة شاهين الحادة في الراب وأصوات أخف وأكثر معاصرة من المشهد المصري الحالي. وبدل التركيز على المواضيع الشخصية، بيتجه شاهين لأفكار أوسع وأكثر عمومية، بعد فترة ابتعد فيها عن الساحة وأعاد التفكير في اتجاهه الموسيقي.
في أحدث حلقات Album Spotlight، بيتكلم شاهين عن ملله السريع ورفضه يكرر نفسه، وبيوضح إن "تلطيش" كان محاولة للخروج من المساحة اللي اتعود عليها. التعاون مع فنانين جدد وتجربة أساليب إنتاج مختلفة كان جزءًا من رغبته في تقديم شيء مختلف.
وبعد إصدار "تلطيش"، يستعد شاهين للعودة للحفلات من خلال جولة في خمس ولايات أمريكية خلال سبتمبر، في خطوة تمثل بداية مرحلة جديدة في مسيرته.
