There’s been a lot of buzz in Egypt’s rap scene recently, and not from the usual selection of MCs. Rising producer/rapper, Xiety 7 - who maintains an incredibly low-key social media presence compared to many of his contemporaries - has followed up his string of high-profile remixes with the infectiously catchy trap anthem, 'Eslam Al Marg'.

Released quietly a little over a month ago, 'Eslam Al Marg' arrives as Xiety 7's first collaboration with renowned producer, clickclack, and currently sits at #44 on Soundcloud's local charts, with nearly three million views across just Soundcloud and YouTube alone. By far the post viewed release by either of the duo, 'Eslam Almarg' treads the (often blurred) line between meme and banger, but does anyone care when the end product elicits as many laughs as it does head bops?

Across 'Eslam Almarg,' it’s clear how much clickclack and Xiety 7 had fun putting it together. The song doesn’t take itself too seriously and, based off the (hilarious) YouTube comments, it seems like the fans are appreciative of such a lighthearted take on Egyptian trap music.

In a rap scene that often takes itself far to seriously, and gets ensnared in the cliches and stereotypes of western rap, 'Eslam Almarg' appears as a much needed breath of fresh air, proving that there’s still room for disruption in Egyptian Rap.
