Young Giza & Mahib Sleat Blend Trap and Live Sonics on Joint EP '1Of1'
Egyptian artist Young Giza and producer Mahib Sleat team up on their new EP '1Of1' to blend raw electronic chaos and organic instrumentation.
On their latest collaborative EP ‘1Of1', Egyptian artist Young Giza and producer Mahib Sleat offer a striking study in sonic contrast. Spanning six tracks, the EP moves fluidly between abrasive electronic chaos, reflective garage rhythms, and stripped-back organic instrumentation, painting a vivid portrait that balances internal friction with raw emotional honesty.
The record opens with ‘LAZM TB3DY’, a track that immediately sets an unpredictable tone. Built on glitchy atmospheric textures and industrial soundscapes, Sleat constructs dense tension before unleashing a heavy, dancy electronic drop.Infused with processed vocals and playful, bleeping synth elements, the track thrives on high-velocity impact.
That aggressive momentum continues on ‘Stamina’, where hollowed-out metal guitars clash against a punchy trap rhythm. Giza delivers melodic, pointed verses that dismiss external opinions and celebrate pure resilience. The track briefly pulls back into a calm B-section enveloped in wispy synth pads, only to surge back into a frenzy of soaring synth arpeggios and unleashed noise.
The mood shifts sharply on ‘Al Korh Abtada’, which pivots toward a nostalgic, UK garage-inspired framework. Anchored by a chilled-out beat and reflective lyricism exploring cycle-of-hurt dynamics and interpersonal anger, the track balances its initial restraint with a soaring synth solo that seamlessly bridges the gap between serene and visceral sonics.
On ‘3eny x 3enk’, a distorted, ambient guitar pad creates a spacious bed for drowned-out background vocals, building a haunting atmosphere over a steady trap groove. Giza shifts to a direct, grounded delivery that feels quietly contemplative, held together by a catchy, persistent synth melody.
The title track, ‘1Of1’, offers the project's most organic turn, pairing meandering acoustic guitar with live bass, groovy drums, and warm background pads. Embracing a full-band feel, the song highlights a lighter, more flirtatious side of Giza’s lyricism.
The EP concludes on a shadowy note with ‘Al Sem’, a track rooted in dark, drenched pads, live acoustic guitar, and subtle trilling synths. Over a sparse, dance-leaning rhythm, Giza assumes a whispery, intimate vocal cadence, detailing the painful lingering aftermath of a toxic relationship.
‘1Of1' stands as an inventive showcase of duality, blending Mahib Sleat’s adventurous production with Young Giza’s versatile vocal range to deliver a concise yet deeply immersive experience.
