Lebanese electronic outfit Love and Revenge unveils their debut single, 'Faqir,' reimagining Lebanon’s 70s through a modern lens. The track dives into the forgotten vaults of Studio Baalbeck, a once-dominant force in Lebanese film and music during the 1960s and 1970s.
Studio Baalbeck's legacy faced destruction during the civil war, but dedicated efforts after the conflict led to the preservation of hundreds of songs and films. 'Faqir' resurrects a piece of this legacy, a previously unreleased song from the 70s sung by Noha Hachem. Love and Revenge carefully reimagines the vintage track, weaving contemporary electronic elements with the song's classic musical foundation. Traditional instruments like the oud blend in naturally with modern synths, presenting a contemporary take on the track that feels nostalgic yet relevant.
The accompanying music video, directed by Nasri Sayegh, further complements this modern perspective, where archival clips from 'Actualités Libanaises' are layered with the song, creating a dynamic visualiser.
