Mona Al Attar Finds Her Way Back to Alexandria on ‘Bara El Madina’

Egyptian singer-songwriter Mona Al Attar has released her latest single, ‘Bara El Madina’, which was originally composed by the late renowned Egyptian maestro Hany Shenouda. The track centres on his signature dreamy arrangements, capturing the feeling of escaping the city’s congestion for a change of pace, heading out on the road with a friend and letting the day unfold.

The song takes listeners on a short journey that begins at night on the open road, turning companionship into a space to unwind and reconnect with the feeling of being alive. That desire to get away comes to a head in the chorus, as El Attar repeats, ‘Let’s escape to the streets, let’s get outside the city.’ Directed by Hussein Esmat, the music video mirrors this sentiment, unfolding like a fleeting day trip and a temporary break from the noise of Cairo.

Accompanying the track is a music video, directed by Hussein Esmat and filmed in Cairo, which features scenes of Al Attar performing on a rooftop. At the same time, the narrative sequences were shot in Alexandria, with the coastal city becoming an imagined destination, the place where the journey at the heart of the song seems to take shape.
