BOUMPH! Maps the Psychological Fallout Of Self-Made Artist on ‘Nsooni’

Syrian rapper and producer Bitter Mouthfeel, or BOUMPH!, has returned with Nsooni, a four-track EP that stands as his most personal release to date.

Written, composed, and largely self-produced (with the exception of ‘Sama7’, helmed by 3li3bboud), the EP stretches BOUMPH!’s signature Arabic hip-hop sound into darker, more introspective terrain. Introspective themes of mental health, self-reliance, loss, and disillusionment with social convention run through the project, without sacrificing the restless experimentation that has long defined his catalogue, drawing elements from rock, jazz, and alternative sounds.

The opening track, ‘Wasileh’, serves as a manifesto of BOUMPH’s journey as a self-made artist, unpacking the psychological toll of pursuing ambition in an unforgiving environment, and tracing isolation, fractured friendships, and the cost of self-made survival. The production is percussion-driven, layering high-pitched, hazy synth pads beneath a frantic, raw vocal delivery that leans into confrontational realism, mirroring the relentlessness of his pursuit.

‘Bali’ deepens the EP’s inward gaze. True to its title, the track probes the psyche, articulating BOUMPH!’s conscious rejection of conventional safety nets, formal education, stable employment, and his guarded approach to mental well-being. Poetic lyricism and religious references anchor the song, while its cloudy, atmospheric production and more melodic vocal approach reflect a quieter, more contemplative state.

On ‘Sama7’, BOUMPH!’s perspective shifts. No longer framed as an underdog or victim, he arrives at a place of acceptance, grappling with forgiveness through vivid imagery and analogy. Produced by 3li3bboud, the track is infused with rock-leaning textures and culminates in a high-energy, experimental outro backed with distorted vocals and chaotic fragments evoking both catharsis and exorcism, and, perhaps, subtly nodding to the sonic lineage of acts like Jadal.

As a whole, Nsooni offers a cohesive, finely detailed portrait of the artistic journey, with all of its shebang of sacrifices, ambition, and hard-won clarity. The release marks a defining chapter for BOUMPH!, one that sharpens his sonic identity and asserts a voice unmistakably his own within an increasingly crowded landscape.
