The Musicians Syndicate in Egypt will establish a specialised committee to investigate foreign artists prior to their performances in the country. According to the syndicate’s announcement, the committee will operate independently and utilise a high-speed technology unit and fresh graduate students across Egypt.
The decision came in light of the recent controversy surrounding American rapper Travis Scott’s performance in Egypt at the pyramids. The concert was cancelled on July 26th, according to an official statement issued by event organisers, Live Nation.
On July 17th, the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate revoked the artist's performing license, stating, ‘The Musicians Syndicate is part of the fabric of this beloved country - working on its stability and security and refusing to tamper with its societal values, including Egyptian and Arab customs and traditions’.
The syndicate’s spokesperson Dr Mohamed Abdallah elaborated on the matter, explaining that the concert’s cancellation is a victory for the syndicate and that many international artists previously performed in Egypt including, Jennifer Lopez’s 2019 North Coast concert and Backstreet Boys’ pyramids performance in 2023.
