Egyptian rapper and producer Marwan Moussa has held no punches whatsoever in the violent new video for his latest single, ‘Nhayt El 3alam’ (The End of the World). Ironic title aside, the video is based around a home invasion, with Moussa acting as the head of the guilty gang. The break-in sees Moussa and co. break into the house and tie-up a family, killing one member in the process, in order to steal a - wait for it - compass.

The video, produced by global online production initiative Kitchen Films, is rather cinematic in parts, but lacks the kind of sophisticated cinematography that would have made the visuals even richer.

The lyrics – accompanied by a hard-hitting sinister beat throughout – mainly discuss betrayal, metaphorically linking the end of the world with a moment of purgatory. Everything now seems out in the open and Moussa emphasises that now is the time for a revenge of sorts, or a righting the wrongs. The lyrics are unforgiving, intentional and laced with rage as the rapper makes it clear that he’s had enough and that he’s not here to mess around. The red lighting and heavily violent sequence of events mirror this livid feeling, with betrayal portrayed as a mysterious woman who takes advantage of the situation to get her hands on the mysterious compass, which appears to have some kind of supernatural element. It almost, kind-of makes sense when you watch it.
