In a sea of increasingly darkening dance music and mutating mahraganat music, Egyptian singer-songwriter, Adam Awad, has released a new track that provides a welcome break.
‘Not Only Me’ sees the Cairo-and-London-based musician takes one small step away from the earthy folk stylings of previous fan favourites such as ‘Troubadour’ and towards a dreamy pop-rock sound that, despite being a slight departure from the usual, still retains some of the musician’s signatures.
The track is very much grounded in that rich Americana sound that Awad has often moulded with his own hands, but it’s also very much wrapped up in slow-roasted, 60s psychedelia. As with much of Awad’s work, it’s the details - maybe only appreciated on repeat listens – that really give it depth. Slightly-distorted guitar, a country blues-inspired keyboard chord and even liberal use of cymbals in bursts (yes it really is in the details) all come together to steadily drive the track forward, with Awad’s vocals acting as the last piece of the puzzle. And no, I am not related to Adam.
