Toola’s New EP ‘The Wicked Man’ is a Loose-Limbed Funky House Affair

LA-based Egyptian DJ and producer Toola returns to Love Attack Records with The Wicked Man, a three-track EP that taps into the funkier side of his colourful house sound.

Marking his second release on the label, the EP takes a playful, late-night approach to the dancefloor. Recorded during Toola’s Los Angeles studio sessions, its three tracks share a loose, unhurried feel, held together by an instinct for groove rather than excess.

The title track, ‘The Wicked Man’, rolls in on a steady house rhythm, punctuated by witty male vocals and glossy synth swerves that keep the groove moving. ‘Through The Boogie’ strips things back further, pairing a relaxed synth lead with disco-tinged vocals that drift in and out of the rhythm. Meanwhile, ‘U Feel Okay’ is the most upbeat of the three, driven by cheeky female vocals and a distinguishable hook.

Throughout The Wicked Man, Toola keeps the production light on its feet, favouring groove and character over unnecessary complexity. The EP is a compact snapshot of the more playful direction his sound is taking, with a distinctly sun-soaked feel.
