This week's playlist is dominated by Egyptian artists with fresh cuts from the likes of ZDAN, El Joker and Mousv.
We’re back with another instalment of our flagship playlist, Rap of the Week, spotlighting the sharpest new rap and hip-hop releases from the region and its diaspora. This week’s selection leans heavily into Egypt, capturing a snapshot of the scene’s range and restlessness right now.
ZDAN collaborates with Young Giza on a drill-infused cut, ‘A3lam Magalna’, as part of his new EP, ZSZN (Disc.1), while El Joker, one of the long-standing MCs in Cairo’s underground rap scene, reminds us of his classic rap flows with ‘El Sa7er’, and Mousv teams up with Shobra El General on a trap and mahragrant fusion, ‘El Geded Shedid’.
Elsewhere, Moroccan femcee Frizzy comes through with a scathing diss track, ‘Frizzelda’. Meanwhile, Syrian rapper and producer Bu Kolthoum experiments with new sounds on ‘Shubenni’, from his latest EP, MHD Mounir.
