As the holy month draws near, with everyone already buzzing about those post-iftar nights glued to the TV screen, this year’s Ramadan series seems to have become a playground for Egyptian rappers, singers and musicians. From Egyptian rap icon Abyusif in ‘Al Ghawy’ to Cairokee’s Ahmed Hatem in ‘Athena’, we have compiled a list of artists who will be bringing their talent to the silver screen this Ramadan season…

Abyusif  | Al Ghawy 

Egyptian rap superstar and acclaimed producer Abyusif will be sharing the screen with Ahmed Mekky in a TV drama titled ‘Al Ghawy’. Directed by acclaimed Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed El Adl and written by Mahmoud Zahran and Tarek Al Kashef, ‘Al Ghawy’ stars Ahmed Mekky as Shams Nasr Al Adawy, a thug from Al Gamaleya neighbourhood who decides to radically change his life after losing his wife. The series will also feature Ahmed Bedeir, Mohamed Lotfy and Aicha Ben Ahmed.

Flex | Welad El Shams 

Directed by Shadi Abdel Salam and written by Mahab Tariq, the series follows the story of two young men, Walaa and Miftah, who decide to rebel against the director of the orphanage they were brought up in. Joining Flex on the cast ensemble are Ahmed Malek, Taha Al-Dessouki, and Mahmoud Hamida.

Eslam Kabonga | Ahl El Khataya 

A crime drama inspired by real-life incidents, ‘Ahl El Khataya’ is directed by Raouf Abdelaziz and written by Ahmed Anwar and Mohammed Abdel-Kawy. The 15-episode series will see Kabonga joining a roster of acclaimed actors, including Gamal Suleiman, Mohamed, Sawsan Badr, Mohamed Tharwat.

Tamer Hashem | Athena 

Having previously participated in a number of successful works like ‘Revo’, Cairokee’s Tamer Hashem is joining the Ramadan drama marathon this year with ‘Athena’, a series that touches on societal issues like the dark web and how it affected the lives of young people in modern society. Directed by Yehia Ismaila and written by Mohamed Nayer, ‘Athena’ also stars Reham Haggag, Sawsan Badr and Salwa Mohamed Ali.

Ahmed Bahaa | Kamel El Adad 3

Having made his on-screen debut in the comedy-drama ‘Seeking Haven for Mr Rambo’, the lead singer of Egyptian alt-rock band Sharmoofers, Ahmed Bahaa, will make a guest appearance in the third season of the hit series ‘Kamel El Adad’ this Ramadan season. The series is led by an all-star cast, including Dina El Sherbiny, Sherif Salama, Essad Younis and Hussein Fahmy, with direction by Khaled El Halfaoui.
