Album Spotlight: Basyoni & Hussein Gamal - ‘Bad Boy’

Striking a balance between witty, offbeat lyricism and meticulous, soulful production, Basyoni and Hussein Gamal have carved out a space for themselves in Egypt’s music scene. Since their first collaboration, ‘ElHalawa Di’, the duo has been quietly building a sound that’s hard to pin down but easy to recognize.

Their debut EP ‘Bad Boy’ didn’t come from a grand concept. It was more about clarity. About saying: this is who we are, and this is what we actually want to say.

The writing moves between heartbreak and sushi plans in Dubai, light and heavy in the same breath. Hussein’s sharp, intuitive production holds it all together, blending familiar grooves with textures that shift just when you think you’ve got them figured out.

Interviewing the duo felt a lot like listening to the EP: laid-back, but unexpectedly sharp. They jumped between jokes, half-finished thoughts, and moments of clarity. That push and pull, between not taking things too seriously and still caring, defines both their sound and their approach to being in the spotlight.

‘Bad Boy’ might seem casual on the surface, but it’s a project with intent. It marks a shift from scattered singles to something more deliberate, without pretending to be bigger than it is.
