More good news for Arabs and Arab music lovers in the EU, ‘Le Guess Who?’ Has just announced that Egyptian, now Brooklyn-based, producer and mastering engineer Heba Kadry will be guest curating for this edition of the festival, along with other guest curators such as the French-Anglo indie-pop dreamers Stereolab, Caribbean-Belgian composer, and Slauson Malone 1.
Taking place in the Netherlands, the festival is one of the best and most anticipated musical events that take place in Europe. Dubbed the tastemakers, the festival is a massive affair that includes 80+ artists, among them are greats like ‘black midi’ and ‘Dudu Tessa & Jonny Greenwood’. Returning November 9-12, the visitors of the festival will have the option to compensate for the CO2 emissions of their travel in the ticketing process, and this fund will then proceed to festival partner Natuur en Milieufederatie Utrecht.
Among Heba Kadry’s weighty curation we find proficient, Cairo-based producer of Post-Shaabi 3Phaz, fresh finds Baskot lel Baltageyya, and Tunisian DJ and producer Deena Abdelwahed, introducing her newest album Jbal Rrsas. Egyptian experimental producer ZULI also is set to appear in collaboration with audiovisual artist Omar El Sadek, and Kamilya Jubran, who’s one of the region’s most revered artists in the experimental and alternative Arabic music scenes.
This year’s ‘Le Guess Who?’ Promises a rich, sustainable experience of cross-cultural music and art that feature some of the planet’s best known and respected artists, and now, with guest curation by Egyptian mastering engineer Heba Kadry, we are assured of a healthy representation of Arab music in the festival’s gigantic lineup.
