Asia Madani Memorial Event to Take Place in Cairo February 14th

In February 2025, Cairo’s music scene and the wider regional scene lost a unique artist in Asia Madani. Her passing resonated well beyond the borders of Egypt, where she resided for two decades, and we lost a fierce champion of the culture and music of her native Sudan. To honor this legacy, a memorial event is set to take place on February 14th at the Swiss Club in Cairo, designed not as a somber farewell, but as a reflection and celebration of her life and work, co-organised and curated by sound engineer,  Nazli Reda.

Starting from 2PM and continuing till 10PM, the day’s agenda captures the eclectic nature of Madani’s influence. Throughout the day, a Sudanese food and crafts market will be open to all, alongside an exhibition of her outfits, instruments and photos from her archive, accompanied by recorded music. The program features two screenings of an interview and a short documentary on Asia’s life by Sherief El Katsha, followed by a live tribute performance by her bandmates and close friends.

Entrance is free, though collection boxes for donations to be made in Asia’s name will be set up on-site. All donations will directly benefit underprivileged families and communities. One year on, the event offers a chance for the community to remember Madani not just as a pioneering musician, but as a friend, a collaborator and a human being.
