Though Egyptian rapper, Felukah, and her upcoming new album has been their centre of attention recently, independent label, Abu Recordings, has continued it’s descent into experimental electronic territory first seen on their VA EP, ABU003, released earlier this year via a limited vinyl run. This latest collection of tracks, the seven-track EP, DWELLER, arrives courtesy of Dubai-based, Palestinian-born musician, Karim Atari.

Composed entirely of one-take modular improvisations and tape loop experiments, DWELLER sees Abu Recordings further expand their already sonically diverse roster with this take on modular techno. Thick, punchy drums perforate the mix below staggeringly fast, discordant melodic sequences and occasional drops of acid house.

Focused primarily on intensive, dancefloor-ready techno productions, the EP occasionally dips its toes into more spacious ambient territory. Atari’s sound design throughout DWELLER is incredibly crisp and clean — despite being a series of one-take jams — and comes across with a sharp focus towards phasing, mixing, and rhythm, rarely stagnating throughout the duration of it’s runtime.
