Shuffle | Oct 2 - Oct 15

We’re back with yet another instalment of Shuffle, our flagship bi-weekly playlist highlighting the best new releases from the Middle East and North Africa. Over the past fortnight, there has been an influx of fresh sounds across all genres, from electronic, dance and experimental to hip-hop, pop and alternative.

Lebanese-born singer-songwriter, Kris Piña, released an alt-pop anthem, ‘Guilty’, from his upcoming debut EP, Who Have I Become, where he meditates on his experience of feeling a survivor’s guilt after leaving his homeland in the 2006 war. Meanwhile, while American-Palestinian pop artist, Lana Lubany, returns with a tongue-in-cheek single, ‘73T’, reclaiming ownership over her own agency and refusing to shrink herself into any box to be likeable. Meanwhile, Saudi indie artist Yazeed Fahad, comes through with a soulful, folksy love song, ‘Abghaha’.

The playlist also features ‘Olive Grooves’ by the Lebanese duo Snakeskin, from their latest album We Live in Sand, a visceral electronic interpretation of the reality of mourning driven by the genocide in Gaza and its eventual spill into Lebanon. Additionally, we have a US-based Turkish producer, INJI, with feel-good banger, ‘In A Mood’, Syrian heavyweight Bu Kolthoum with ‘Turwada’ - released via Fake Lines’s fundraising VA compilation for Palestine - and Egyptian live electronic act Chiati blends mahraganat rhythms with afro-house melodies in ‘Masafet El Sekka’.
