In this edition of our Rap of the Week playlist, we highlight standout hip-hop releases from across the MENA region. This week has seen several exciting releases from superstar rappers, including Savage Plug, Hleem Taj Alser, Bo9al and more.
‘Batshad’ stands out with an interesting collab between Savage Plug and producer turned rapper Hady Moamer from ‘The Norf Tape’ which is a product of a two-year DIY artist residency that brought together a mosaic of up-and-coming and emerging rappers from across North Africa, from Morocco, Tunisia and Libya to Alegria, Egypt and Sudan. The mixtape encompasses 16 tracks in different Arabic dialects, covering various sounds and subgenres of hip-hop as well as subject matters, giving a platform to rising rappers, who have yet to achieve commercial success, as well as established talents, in equal measures. Additionally, frequent collaborators Lil Baba and Abo El Anwar collab on yet another banger ‘Nazel 3la Fo2’.
We also have new music from Bo9al with "Thomas Shelby," Vli Weezy with "Nike," and Wezza Montasser with "Batal El Dayra."
