Peachpuff Releases Club-Ready VA Compilation ‘Don’t Touch My Swing’

Lebanese-bred electronic label and multi-disciplinary agency, Peachpuff, has released its second VA compilation, Don’t Touch My Swing. The five-tracker highlights a diverse range of artists from Peachpuff’s roster, each of whom brings an original production rooted in the classic influences of 90s drum and turntable culture, retooled with contemporary, hard-hitting basslines.

Cosy yet bouncy, and groove-laden, the record’s sound bounces between garage, electro and IDM, sometimes imbued with flourishes of breakbeats and hip-hop. On the A side of the record, Mikita Skye, a rising force in Beirut’s underground electronic scene known for her signature mixing style of vocal chops and sleek grooves, opens the record with ‘Jazz Asscit’, a punchy cut built on a solid garage foundation, embellished with colorful jazz textures and hip-hop vocals.

Creme shifts gears on ‘Bass Generator’, leaning into electro. The track rides propulsive rhythms and a heavy 808 sub, punctuated by sharp percussive zaps and streaks of vocoder-treated vocals. A clear standout is ‘Freak on the Line’ by veteran DJ and producer Eli Atala. A fixture on international dancefloors since the ’90s, Atala steps outside his house roots here, embracing a more experimental IDM palette. Glitchy, intricate rhythms collide with acid-tinged grooves and ambient washes, revealing a more introspective edge to his sound.

Don’t Touchy My Swing reframes familiar electronic references through distinct, contemporary voices, highlighting the diverse range of upcoming talents in Lebanon’s dance music scene, while simultaneously offering a concise snapshot of the label’s evolving identity.
