Eman Alali Celebrates Female Ambition on Pop Single ‘Fame and Fortune’

Saudi-Iranian artist Eman Alali returns with her latest single, ‘Fame and Fortune’, a bold pop anthem exploring female desire and ambition in the creative world.

At first listen, the track might read as a sharp critique of celebrity culture, framing a narrative about the blurred lines between a performer's private identity and their public persona. Beneath that surface, however, it reveals the struggles women face in the creative industry, highlighting the pressures and objectification they navigate under public scrutiny.

Musically, it fuses 80s-inspired synth-pop with modern glitchy production and propulsive drum patterns, layering fragmented vocals and shimmering metaphors to reveal the vulnerability behind public personas.

“The track began as an admission I was afraid to make: that I want to be wanted, not just by one person, but by everyone in the room. There is a lot of shame in that. We’re told to be confident but never to admit wanting to be admired. I wanted to break that silence and say plainly that I know who I am and the power I hold,” Alali explains in the release announcement.

The accompanying music video, directed by Syumbel Khusainova, feels like flipping through a private collection of film reels. It draws on Hollywood’s fascination with powerful women, weaving together iconic cinematic portrayals of desire, vulnerability, and ambition, from Gilda and Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, to The Red Shoes, Vivre Sa Vie, and Juliette Binoche in Three Colors: Blue.

With ‘Fame and Fortune’, Eman Alali opens a space for reflection on the nuanced ways women navigate visibility, desire, and authority, but ultimately urges female creatives to assert themselves in a male-dominated industry with confidence and boldness.
