As we approach the World Cup, it would only make sense to have a beloved song released prior to the highly anticipated event. One of the most influential record producers in music history - Swedish-Moroccan singer, songwriter, and record executive RedOne - was put in charge of producing the music for this year’s World Cup 2022 Qatar.
To that end, he recruited four massively talented singers from the Middle East to create a new track called ‘Light The Sky’, featuring Moroccan-Canadian singer Nora Fatehi, Emirati-Yemeni singer Balqees, Iraqi singer Rahma Riad, and Moroccan talent Manal Benchlikha, also known as Manal.
In classic World Cup fashion, ‘Light The Sky’ follows a traditional rhythmic bounce, choir-like singing, and of course the themes of unity and lighting up the world. Following the collective chant of all four artists alongside the backing vocals, Balqees kicks off her verse in fine fashion followed by a solo section with a North-African sounding synth riff. Rahma Riad’s sultry vocals then takes over the mix. Nora Fatehi offers her signature Hindi-Moroccan fusion singing before Manal gives an epic rap-like verse to close off the single.
Having garnered 10 Grammy nominations and winning three of them throughout his career, RedOne has worked with many high-profile artists with the likes of Lady Gaga, Akon, the one and only Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne, Cheb Khaled, One Direction, and many more.
