Watch Habibi Funk Deliver a North African-Inspired Set from a Rooftop in Tunisia
Champion of all things Arab and retro, Jannis Stürz (aka Habibi Funk) took to a rooftop in Tunisia’s capital this week, with a stunning sunset behind him and a selection of the funkiest, grooviest Arab music you’ll find anywhere before him.

Earlier this week, Jannis Stürz (aka Habibi Funk), performed an intimate set on the rooftop of Tunisia’s Analog Africa, a Frankfurt/Tunis based label focusing on North and West African music. The stunning coastal sunset serves as a great backdrop for Habibi Funk’s extensive set, which gathers sounds from over six countries in the MENA.

Of the many highlights of the set, brief forays into the worlds of Libyan Reggae, Sudanese Jazz, and Mogadisco — all extremely storied genres in their own right — provide the biggest bursts of vintage, funk-tinged energy.
As with most of their efforts, Habibi Funk kicks the door wide open to a world of rare musical gems, some of which we in the MENA may have lost touch with ourselves.
