It’s always refreshing to feature a regional female DJ, especially if you take into consideration how uneven the split is between male and female talent in the MENA dance music scene. Taking into consideration that most countries around the world have faced a gender inequality in their bookings with the MENA region being one of the worst offenders, RITA made a name for herself as one of the first female DJs in Lebanon and managed to pursue a career in the business that currently lasts over 14 years
These days Lebanon is experiencing a surge in female bookings, with a substantial and active percentage of their active DJ force comprised of females today. Rita Haddad has had an active DJ career since 2004, with the taste and ability to play anything from disco, Middle Eastern funk, Afro-funk and house she managed to land bookings with nearly every major party/club in Beirut and beyond. In 2014 she landed her residency Grand Factory residency in 2014 and its adjoining backroom - Reunion - in 2016.
For our 35th Select RITA digs into her deep house crate to piece together a laidback set that makes great weekend listening. The mix features tracks from Hrag Mikkel, Karmon, Fabio Montana along with some classics from Love Over Entropy, Black Coffee and Upercent. The set even features "Cedar Trees" a track from Lebanese DJ/producer and label owner Nabih Esta aka Nesta to give you a feel of what the local Lebanese scene is up to.
