Commercial heavyweight, and arguably Egypt’s top rapper these days, Wegz, has just taken his first step into the world of cinema by scoring the official song for El Ghasala.
Delicate, cascading piano melodies form the emotional heart of the song as Wegz’s raps over a hard-hitting trap/shaabi beat by producer, Sintax.
Directed by Essam Abdelhamid and starring Mahmoud Hemeida, Ahmed Hatem Omar, Hannah El Zahed and Sherine Reda, El Ghasala is a sci-fi comedy about a - wait for it - washing machine that allows the characters to travel through time.
The music video contrasts shots from the movie with behind-the-scenes footage of Wegz rapping in a recording booth, and based on what we’ve seen from this brief teaser, the film is set to be either the worst film ever made in Egyptian cinema or the best.
El Ghasala is set to hit cinemas across Egypt this Eid.
