Founded as a collaboration of like-minded producers that enjoy the deep, dark and emotional sphere of electronic music, Shagara Records opens the doors of Rabbit Hole Studios for electronic music enthusiasts in Cairo. Apart from acting as a space you can rent out to mix music, the studio will be offering a complete six-week DJ course. The first edition already started earlier this week on January 7. On top, there are plans to host a production course for beginners this year as well. Next to the new studio, the label also celebrates the launch of their new headquarters. In a private event that will take place later this month on their very own rooftop, three Shagara residents will perform, showcasing their new EPs.
The name of the label Shagara translates to tree from Arabic. According to the record owners, this is meant to be a symbol for the balance, strength and harmony within the music published on their label. Furthermore, it also refers to the strong message and purpose the label stands for. In fact, for every song sold, Shagara commits to planting a tree in cooperation with the One Tree Planted foundation. That being said, we look forward to a year full of new releases and freshly planted trees by the Cairo-Berlin connection.
