Since 2017, the ‘Spotify Singles’ series has been giving artists an opportunity to cover songs or record new versions of their own tracks, and bringing listeners everywhere a chance to experience their fresh perspectives. Since its inception, the show has amassed over seven billion streams, featuring more than 700 recordings from over 300 artists spanning various genres, including renowned names like Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Mac Miller, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift and R3HAB to name a few.
Spotify are finally rolling out their hit series in MENA, inviting to its inaugural edition Moroccan-Cameroonian rapper Tagne, who ranked among the most streamed artists in MENA for Wrapped 2022 and whose single ‘Ma Colombe’ has garnered over 33 million streams on the platform.
"It gives me great pleasure to be the first artist from the region to take part in Spotify Singles and share my music with a wider audience. Performing an acoustic version of two tracks from my new album 'Lmektoub' was a pure pleasure," Tagne tells SceneNoise. “I hope that Spotify Singles will pave the way for other artists from the region. There is an abundance of extraordinary talent that deserves to be showcased."
In this debut episode, which just came out today, Tagne showcases different versions of two tracks from his latest album, ‘Lmektoub’. The video was shot against the enchanting backdrop of Marrakech’s Agafay desert, reflecting the artistic direction of Tagne’s album.
Joined by Algerian singer and composer Fares LÜNN , Tagne presents their reimagined version of ‘Niya’, swapping out the piano with a classical guitar. As the sun descends and Fares exits the stage, Tagne takes us through an intimate and stripped-back rendition of ‘Liberté’.
