Looks like Oprah’s been busy. Produced by her company Harpo Films, ‘Queen Sugar’ is a long-running TV drama about three siblings who moved from Los Angeles to Louisiana to inherit a 800-acre sugarcane farm after the death of their father. And as engaging as that might be, that’s not what caught our attention. The third episode of the show’s seventh season had an unexpected musical cameo, showcasing Egyptian artist NOVO and producers Issa & Assouad’s co-produced single ‘Magic’!
Egyptian singer, songwriter, composer, and audio engineer NOVO, along with Overnite compatriots, producers, and audio engineers Issa & Assouad, have been silently dominating the music scene. Whether it was their productions for Wegz & Mekky’s ‘Akwa Mix for WE, Wegz’s ‘3atshan we basstana taghyeer’ for Pepsi, or their production on Arsenik and 3enba's 'Rambo', they’ve been co-producing banger after banger, as well as working with the likes of Mousv, Nubi, and much more. After the release of Novo’s debut album ‘Love or Madness’ back in 2021, the first single off the album ‘Nobody’ got placed in the top 10 of Apple Music’s editorial playlist ‘Today’s Hits’, garnering over 300,000 plays in the first five days.
Shortly after, NOVO and Issa&Assouad were contacted by a sync agent requesting NOVO’s entire catalog of releases. Fast forward to August 2022 when their collective, IV/RIN, received an email stating that ‘Magic’, a record off of ‘Love or Madness’, had been selected for the American TV show ‘Queen Sugar’ which is executively produced by legendary American talk show host, television producer and author Oprah Winfrey, as well as American filmmaker, television producer, and film publicist Ava DuVernay.
