Cairene party series JellyZone is set to launch a new concept, ‘Magalaat’, with a 12-hour party on November 22nd.
‘Magalaat’ is a new series designed to explore the musical ties between marginalized cultures, fostering cultural exchange between Cairo’s underground electronic scene and the Global South, as well as the Slavic and Balkan communities. Each edition will focus on highlighting the diverse and innovative soundscapes of a specific area within these regions.
Taking place at an open desert camp near Wadi Degla, Maadi, the first edition of ‘Magalaat’ will be headlined by producer and selector Orieta Chrem, a leading figure in Lima’s clubbing scene, recognized for her fusion of bass sounds and traditional rhythms. She will be joined on the lineup by a roster of Cairo-based selectors and JellyZone’s family such as Zeft Funk, who will be spinning a hybrid set, along with Azzouni, A7ba L Jelly, and Dubai’s visiting selector Martina.
The party will also feature a special vinyl showcase from ECK Echo, a global record label and a platform focusing on Afro and Latin culture, with a catalog steeped in Peruvian mythology and ancestral melodies.
