Firas Abou Fakher, a former member of beloved Lebanese indie rock group Mashrou’ Leila, just won a BAFTA for composing the score of the BBC documentary ‘The Shamima Begum Story’, which is part of the network’s long-running series ‘This World’.
Directed by Joshua Baker and produced by Sara Obeidat, the documentary follows the true story of a British 15-year-old girl who left London to join ISIS in 2015. After being missing for four years, Shamima, pregnant with her third child, attempts to return to the UK in 2019. In response to this, the British government - considering her a threat - revokes her citizenship and keeps her captive in a Syrian prison camp.
