Assasi returns in his trademark getup of a tarboush and scarf, confidently and braggadociously dismissing his critics in a laid-back, humorous flow that is too smooth to not find somewhat catchy. Filmed in a classic hip-hop style, the video features Assasi solo in a number of different locales, rapping directly to the camera and, by extension, his haters and critics.

“One day, I had an epiphany. I realized that haters and their mindless imitators could only bother me if I cared what they had to say. 'Mandal' and its accompanying music video celebrate me running out of fucks to give!” said Assasi on a statement in the Bandcamp description for the track

Edinburgh-based producer Haquin shines on ‘Mandal’, expertly fusing UK drill with minimal Middle-Eastern rhythms over thundering bass that gives the track a groovy, driving energy. ’Mandal’ also features live percussion on the riq, tombak, and sarangi by collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Lorenzo Mantova.

Mandal is set to appear on the first of three upcoming EPs by Assasi, ultimately coming together to form the album Third World Wide. All revenue from Assasi’s tracks this August are to be donated to the Beirut Relief Efforts.
