Freek is sick of the naysayers and decriers. We got the hint with his March single, ‘Mush Fathi’, though his general attitude there was just being ‘over it’, so to speak. For his latest track, however, the Somali rhymer’s blood is very much close to boiling.

‘La Titfalsaf’ is a no-holds barred double-dose of drill, with the UAE-based artist rapping in both Arabic and English. The title translates to something along the lines of ‘don’t philosophise’ or ‘don’t act like a philosopher’, reflecting the summation of the lyrics as ‘if you don’t have anything nice to say (about me), don’t say anything at all’.

In the last few years, Freek has been one of the region’s biggest proponents of trap, though he has, in more recent times, honed his sound towards the genre’s offspring, drill. His forays into both styles are owed to his first musical love, metal. It wasn’t until his post-metal years as a young music fan really connected with hip-hop, with trap/drill on some level combining metal’s hard beats and hip-hop as a vehicle for expression. After winning a loyal band of fans from across the Middle East, Freek has gone on to open for the likes of trap trailblazer, Gucci Maine, as well The Future and Wu-Tang Clan.
