Amidst a sea of DJs, Cairo’s live electronic performers are few and far between. Though a relative newcomer compared to other live acts like Hassan Abou Alam and CHIATI, Taher has spent the better part of a year teasing his productions via track previews on Soundcloud, as well as during all-original sets at venues around Cairo after debuting at SceneNoise's Fresh Meat event series. Taher’s productions have also found their way into the realm of cinema, via films such as Ramy Allam’s In Memory Of, which premiered at the AVIFF Cannes Film Festival in 2019.

First performed live during the 10th episode of Hunalqahira live-stream series, ‘You’re Gonna Miss’ is deeply inspired by the sonic traditions of cities like Chicago and Detroit. Like many of Taher’s productions, this release features thumping basslines, a tight 4-to-the-floor percussion section, an infectious vocal sample that lingers throughout, and long after the song has ended.

The past nine months show a clear progression in Taher’s compositional thinking; ‘You’re Gonna Miss’ is far more minimal and refined than previous productions, with a clear emphasis on the catchiness of the vocal to carry the emotion and groove of the track forwards. When performing live, Taher uses an extremely minimalist setup and bounds between genres with the confidence and control of a seasoned artist. With a setup that emphasises function over flash, and very little time spent standing still, Taher melds together disco, house, breakbeats and techno seamlessly.
