Egyptian
trap and mahraganat producer, Molotof, has been prolific with new music in the
last couple of months, releasing tracks with everyone from up-and-comers like Zuksh
and Young Zuka, to electro-shaabi stalwart, Sadat, and he’s also set to appear
on Cairo imprint Rakete’s debut release, Cairo Quest.
While
Molotof hit the scene collaborating with some of Egypt’s hottest rappers, his
latest work, ‘Gar’2an’, sees him team up with filmmaker, Omar Donga, and Peacock
Production House. Written and directed by Donga – who has worked with the likes
of Wegz and Dina El Wedidi – the video is a cryptic, dark short film that
depicts a kind-of post-apocalyptic world. It opens on the morbid note of a body
being buried by a gang of seeming misfits. The group go on to smoke weed,
kidnap a young buy found in the wilderness, as it becomes apparent that they are possessed by some kind of being. The track
itself is a suitably broody, ominous number that is every bit as cinematic as
the visuals. There’s an anxiety throughout as the track essentially builds to nothing
but more layers of synths – which only adds to the anxiety.
