After a fairly packed 2020 that saw Egyptian lo-fi/alt-rocker and SLOVVDK label co-founder, Moe Hani (aka Dirty Backseat), drop a range of EPs, singles, and film scores, the multi-talented artist has started off 2021 by dropping a new five-track EP Pop Heart Aching Songs. Alongside a bunch of new material, the record also features previously released singles, ‘River’ — which dropped earlier this year - and ‘Spliff’, which released as part of SLOVVDK’s 2020 compilation Mixtape II.

On Pop Heart Aching Songs, we can hear Dirty Backseat leave behind his road-tested synthwave inclinations, instead drawing influence from an intersection of lo-fi indie and surf rock. If ‘River’ wasn't indication of this new direction enough, the trio of new songs introduced on the EP impart a much more laid back vibe across the project through the use of heavily processed guitar licks, steady bass guitar riffs, upbeat synthesizer lead melodies, and spacey vocals flowing in an out of the mix.
