In this edition of our Shreet Cocktail playlist, where we highlight the best new releases from across the MENA music scene, we dug deep beyond the surface and curated a selection of tracks that spans various genres and musical styles. This edition highlights a diverse range of sounds, from experimental pieces to pop-leaning tracks and avant-garde deep cuts, featuring new music by Abdullah Miniawy, Snakeskin and Maii Waleed.
Lebanese shoegaze duo Julia Sabra and Fadi Tabbal, the musical force behind the shoegaze outfit Snakeskin, released their sophomore album ‘They Kept Our Photographs’, in which they blend dark folk-tronic elements with shoegaze and dream pop. We select the track ‘Bodies’ from the album, which combines luminous dream-pop with vivid, unsettling lyrical themes, showcasing the duo's ability to fuse beauty with raw emotion.
Also on the playlist is a track from Maii Waleed’s latest EP with John Musichon,‘Etha’, featuring jazzy inserts, folk guitar lines and minimalistic percussion that lay a foundation for Maii’s airy vocals, which feel contemplative and comforting. Her songwriting is a well-constructed stream of consciousness, inviting introspection.
Moreover on the playlist we see new releases by Egyprian experimentalist Abdullah Miniway with his track ‘Heaven for non believers’, Molotof with ‘Yona’ and Psychedelic outfit Ein L Aql with ‘Al Baydah Wal Hajar’.
