Samar Tarik’s ‘DL’ EP is A Soundtrack to Psychological Breakdown

Further expanding her vision on tackling mental turmoil and emotional discordance, Egyptian singer-songwriter Samar Tarik has released ‘DL’, an EP representing the stages of a psychological breakdown.

Created based on the Ramadan 2025 hit series ‘Al Sharna’a’, the EP is a cohesive melodious kaleidoscope structured to reflect the show’s dark storyline and its main character’s arc. The record has a considerable amount of unflinching detail put into themes of depression and paranoia, carried out by deeply melancholic simple instrumentations and concerningly dismal lyricism.

The EP kicks off with ‘Batouh’, a haunting rumination that delves into the atmospheric loneliness in the wake of living a dual reality. Throughout the EP, Samar’s contemplative voice –often quivering with intensity–paints a vivid image of how that vicious cycle of distress bursts into a full hallucination as a form of coping mechanism.

Directed by Mahmoud Abdel Tawab and written by Amr Samir Atef, ‘Al Sharna’a’ follows the story of a young working-class man who starts leading a dual reality after scumming to the temptation of drugs, which leads him to suffer from deep psychological dissociation.

The four tracks of the EP were released separately as soundtracks for the series throughout the last two weeks.
