Frequent collaborators Rknddn and Big Murk have been breaking through Jordan’s alternative rap scene with their innovative sound and diverse influences. In the past, the duo’s signature style has blended hip-hop with grime, garage, and breakbeats, but on their latest release ‘Gazder’, they take a more experimental approach which showcases Rknddn’s nonchalant delivery over the beat’s evolving drum patterns and a stripped-down, eerie instrumental.
In ‘Gazder’, Rknddn’s razor-sharp delivery leads us through the track’s choppy instrumental, where producer Big Murk places energetic hits between the spaces of Rknddn’s air-tight flows with detailed drum programming. While Big Murk takes a maximalist approach to the rhythms on the track, he goes for a more atmospheric sound for the other elements of the instrumental, building chords out of thin pad-like samples which lend a quality of suspension and weightlessness to the release.
The track is accompanied by a washed-out graphic visualizer designed by Rknddn, in which the release’s restlessness is represented by heavy motion blur and fast-paced cuts that match the track’s rising energy.
