Maii Waleed & Zeid Hamdan Rekindle Their Alt-Pop Spark on ‘Fashi’
The pair remind us of their smooth free-flow musical style, which we grew to love since their debut ‘Moga’ in 2013.
After a year-long hiatus, Egyptian singer-songwriter Maii Waleed and Lebanese producer Zeid Hamdan reunite as acclaimed duo Maii & Zeid with the release of a new single, ‘Fashi’.
The track sees the pair sharpening their signature smooth free-flow musical style, reminding us of their effortless chemistry and collaborations, which we grew to love since their debut ‘Moga’ in 2013.
‘Fashi’ is a biting, playful reflection on fascism, channelling frustration with authoritarianism while subtly nodding to corrupt governmental systems across the region. Its darkly humorous edge underscores the duo’s knack for blending weighty themes with infectious melodies.
Zeid Hamdan’s unmistakable crisp electronic beats and syncopated percussion drive the track, weaving through wonky synths and pulsating basslines that feel both nostalgic and refreshing with an electro-pop ting. His production perfectly complements Maii’s intricate compositions, songwriting and vocal performance that shifts throughout the track, going from a soulful observing tonality to a more powerful soaring pitch.
The track comes as the lead single of Maii & Zeid’s long-awaited collaborative comeback EP, ‘Manhoos'. The EP consists of three tracks and is scheduled for release in 2026.
