I’ve been patiently waiting for a summer track like this to come along, after all it’s May, and as Wiley famously said in the pre-antisemitism days, “If you want a summer ting you gotta May it”, and this might just be the aforementioned objective ‘Ting’.
Ma-Bayn and Karim Serry have just dropped a new garage flavoured track which is sure to be the soundtrack to many a late night drive home from Sahel, or hazy late night party for the next few months.
The beat provided by Karim Serry, of MOSHTRQ fame is a skippy garage vibe, something reminiscent of drum patterns found on The Streets’ ‘Original Pirate Material’ or ‘Bound 4 Da Reload’ by Oxide & Neutrino. It takes us back to a simpler time, when the biggest thing we had to worry about was more calling credit for our Nokia 3310s or saving up for another pair of Nike TNs.
Then we have Ma-Bayn’s floaty vocals and delivered with a cool storytelling swagger, yet introspective almost like a shy bedroom girl confessing her deepest secrets. Either way you look at it, it’s enthralling and seemingly effortless.
Is this the feel good hit of summer 2023, our research says it is.
