LAÏ & Liliane Chlela Drop Experimental Drum & Bass Single ‘Mesh S7ab’
The Lebanese pair soundtrack the uneasy pressure of a relationship that never fully landed anywhere.
Lebanese singer-songwriter LAÏ and electronic scene stalwart Liliane Chlela have unveiled ‘Mesh S7ab’, the first single from their forthcoming two-part collaborative EP. Released via SuperBored, an independent creative collective championing experimental art and unconventional regional collaborations, the track immediately stakes its claim as a late-night confession that never lands: vulnerable, unresolved, and utterly riveting.
Chlela layers her deconstructed sonic aesthetic in shifting textures, crafting a cinematic soundscape that pushes drum’n’bass to its edges. The Lebanese producer and composer slices between pop sensibilities, relentless bass pressure and the abrupt, heavy rhythmic shifts of drill, through skilful manipulation of synth patterns and melodic interludes.
Against this mercurial backdrop, LAÏ’s delicate, unmistakable vocals anchor the track. Her introspective lyrics explore the tension of a not-quite relationship, the itch of being perpetually lost in translation. At times, her voice is broken down and processed, becoming part of the music’s architecture itself, amplifying her emotional distress while creating a haunting, contemplative sonic narrative.
If ‘Mesh S7ab’ is any indication, the rest of the EP could become a roadmap for a new wave of experimental collaboration in the region.
