In this latest Artist Spotlight, we sit down with Khaled Al-Kammar to trace his evolution from the fast-paced world of advertising to the considerablt more nuanced art of dramatic scoring. We explore his transition from composing in service of a product to crafting the sonic identities that define a series, alongside a deep dive into his creative process for the recent Egyptian Ramadan hit, ‘Ain Sehreya’, as he reveals how music can transcend background texture to become a central dramatic force.

Arguably one of the most prominent composers of his generation, Al-Kammar has scored over 25 works across film and television, including ‘Al-Ekhtyar’, ‘Khali Balak Mn Zizi’, ‘Finding Ola’, and Netflix’s first Egyptian production, ‘Paranormal’. His breakthrough arrived in 2019 with the soundtrack for Karim El-Shenawy’s ‘Qabeel’, a score that earned him a prestigious Hollywood Music in Media Award.

During our discussion, he explains his method of cultivating a sense of suspended feeling through unresolved harmonies, shaping a contemporary sound that mirrors the psychological arcs of his characters.
